You know..now is not the time for me to go crazy over another J-drama. But I can't help it that I have escapist tendencies (and so I turn to my J-dramas).

So a few days ago, I gave in and started searching for new J-dramas to watch and came upon....

Code Blue!

Yeah!

I really didn't expect to find a drama that I felt like watching. But I found a medical drama that starred by favourite Japanese actor (Yamapi) and two actresses who I like too (Aragaki Yui and Toda Erika). Not my fault that they had a good cast and it was a medical drama to boot. It was like finding a Japanese version of Grey's Anatomy minus the sex and plus the action because in this drama, they get to sit in helicoptors to help their patients. So, it short, it seemed cooler.

And since it stars Yamapi... get ready to hear me gush about him
(Quek, are you reading this? I like him more than Edward Cullen ok? *gasp*.... Sofia and Alina are gonna kill me cos of that statement)

(you should also know that I'm blogging about this because I am so bored and I am suffering from the withdrawal symtoms of having to wait for one week for episode 9)

Here's the summary of the show:
The drama's full title is "Code Blue: Doctor Heli Kinkyu Kyumei." The concept is based on Japan's proposal for an emergency medical service using helicopters to quickly reach those in need. A special bill was passed in June 2007 that should foster widespread adoption of the system. Yamashita stars as a young doctor-in-training, working under the guidance of an experienced "flight doctor" (Toshiro Yanagiba). Some scenes will be filmed with a real helicopter, adding to the show's tension. Credits: tokyograph

So after watching 8 out of the 11 episodes, my verdict is that it is one cool show. The drama is very intense. At the start, it may seem a bit slow and repetitive. Emergency, scramble, one of them gets to board the helicoptor and gets to the scene, gets patient back, operate on patient. But it gets better after say, the first 3 episodes?

I think what drew people to the show initially is the cast, and the fact that Yamapi took off his shirt within the first 30 seconds of the first episodes.

HAHA. Yes, he took off his shirt. I didn't know that that was coming so I was caught off guard. But I was like whoaa, since when did Yamapi work out?!

the cast

For me, the characters draw me into the show. Because it's not just the emergency situations that make the show so intense but the characters as well. Yamapi's character, Aizawa Kosaku, is the cool headed, negative EQ guy with great skill. Typical. But it makes you want to find out why he acts the way he does. And you do, later in the show. What's even better is that you see him and the other characters develop as well. So they are not so one-dimensional.

Shiraishi Megumi, played by Gakki, is the nice girl who has nothing bad to say but isn't too bad in the surgical room either. Toda Erika plays Hiyama Mihoko who is straightforward, has confidence but underneath the exterior, she can get pretty emotional. Fugikawa Kazuo is the last intern. He is played by Asari Yosuke and is the guy that is lagging far far behind. But I suppose, what he lacks in skill, he tops it up with patient relations. Then the flight nurse, Saejima Haruka played by Higa Manami, has probably the biggest emotional baggage. So at the start, she seems like the bitch, but you'll understand why later.

Here are some shots:
Yamapi and Gakki on the heli.. Yamapi looks pissed off?
And I can't read what the article is about, unfortunately!

Yamapi! Did I mention how I like his new hairstyle?

And I just thought of another reason why I started to watch J-dramas again at such an inappropriate time.. It's because there's no more Olympics! I miss watching swimming, gymnastics and rhythmic gym!
