After speaking to my sister, I realised that I do not need to get my driver's license ASAP. Just within the next 1 - 2 years.. (but I want it sooner!)

And I also just realized that my Mum is actually really quite cheena and has a really bad taste in music. I think if I were like my Mum, I might turn into an ah lian. I'm not saying that my Mum is an ah lian. She's definitely cooler than an ah lian, it's just her style. But I'm saying that if I were the girl that my Mum wants me to be, then I'd be an ah lian. So I thank God that I'm not the girl that my Mum wants me to be. Phew.

But her music really..... sucks.

Hate to say this, but my Mum blasted some techno crap music that you would find playing at some cheap Chinese disco for my niece to dance to. The crappy music came with crappy music videos of women dressed like they were blind and "dancing" with some old fogey that had a beard, ponytail and a beer belly.

I was so traumatised. I openly showed my disgust and quickly retreated to my room (not without lowering the volume first).

My niece is still young; she'll dance to anything. But I think she's quite a natural dancer. She danced to some hip hop singer (Rihanna? I have no clue) when we were at Mango once.

Yeah well. I told my Mum that it was gross music over the dinner table and she admitted it. I hope it will not be played ever again. I should find the CD and get rid of it or something. I hope my niece will not grow up liking that sort of music.

I think we all have our phases of "terrible music". For me, I never ever liked techno (much less, crappy techno) and I never liked Mandopop. When I was young, I was a pop kid and I listened to lots of radio. But lots of stuff that I used to listen to are really..what I'd call "crappy" now.

Here's my music timeline - what I liked at what age (I think it can get quite embarrassing!):

7-9 years old: Spice Girls totally ruled my world. I did listen to some Nsync and BSB, I think

10-12 years old: S Club 7, Blue and Avril Lavigne. We used to blast S Club in our primary school classroom.

13-14 years old: Still Avril and Linkin Park (I was starting to like rock music more). I hated Avril ever since I saw her live when I was 13. I don't like singers who can't sing (well, duh!)

15-16 years old: Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Linkin Park (first album only), Coldplay, Funeral For A Friend, Placebo, Utada Hikaru, Jpop/Jrock stuff

17-18 years old:
Same stuff as the ones in 15-16 yrs old + Feist, Spoon, Arctic Monkeys, Interpol, !!!, Snow Patrol, Patrick Wolf, Foals, Anberlin, some Portishead songs, some Klaxons songs, Bloc Party, Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, etc.

Being with people who have somewhat similar taste in music as I do (like Loo, Sofia, Alina) really exposed me to bands that I probably wouldn't have known because I don't really go around searching for music and stuff. Back in secondary sch, my friends didn't really listen to the same genre of English music that I liked...so that exposed me more to Japanese music instead. Now, it's the total opposite!
